Day 4 – 30km Pamplona to Puente la Reina
Clean sock day. Left about 7.30 again, walking with Gigi still. Heading out of city deciding to coffee and breakfast at next village. Coffee is great! Gigi had a boiled egg and I had my protein shake. Felt crowded this morning walking so I left Gigi and pumped out a kiwi pace. On my own again a long climb ahead to Pilgrim statue at Alto de Perdón, well worth the views. Slow rocky decent then walking the path through wheat fields into Puente la Regina. Beautiful old city also Famous for Romanesque bridge of Puente la Reina. Bought a baguette, sausage, olives n cheese and sat by river. Feeling pretty good so I decided to kick on to next village.. Bad move.. Massive thunderstorm, louder than I had ever experienced. Wasnt to worried only 6km to next village. Guess what, no room at the Inn! Me n 2 others had to catch a taxi to back where we started.. Oh well, now clean dry and warm and have booked in for a pilgrim dinner.
Sounds like you’re having a good time. I definitely recommend hitting the village before or after a Brierly stage just to avoid the crowds at albergues. I’m gonna start 10-15km days to be kind to my feet and to get afternoons to chill with a drink or two. Burgos on wed. Not sure of the town but definitely try to hit the albergue essentia that I wrote about the other day. Honestly the guy there is an angel. No doubt I’ll be seeing you soon! x
